Features

Installation & Setup

Prerequisites

  • Unreal Engine 5.4.4 installed

Basic Usage Example

  1. Before exporting an animation in Blender, make sure to export it at 30 fps.
  2. To change framerate in Blender, go to Output and under Format section set Frame Rate to 30 fps. Export as fbx with better fbx plugin (disable edge crease).
  3. Import an animation into your UE project that fits the dbd survivor skeleton, choose Characters/Campers/Models/CamperMale_REF_Skeleton as skeleton. Make sure file path, file name replaces existing DBD animation.
  4. Open your animation, under Bone Compression Settings select /Game/Animation/DefaultAnimBoneCompressionSettings, under Curve Compression Settings select /Game/Animation/DefaultAnimCurveCompressionSettings WARNING: By default, the Bone and Curve compression settings will be set to Engine/Animation/... this WILL crash your game. If your game crashes with your custom animations mod, this is 99% the issue, don't bother DMing me until you've rechecked this enough times.
  5. While you have your animation's details panel opened, check and make sure that under Advanced, Asset User Data has 0 Array elements, if not, remove all of them. This would also crash your game.
  6. Cook your mod and package it with DBDUnrealPak. If you crashed, read above.

Adding Notifies (Sounds)

  1. Open your animation in your UE project, also in case you are making an "old dbd animations" mod, open the original animation in FModel from whichever version you exported it from. For example F_Inj_StandRun
  2. At the bottom, you will have a timeline with Notifies, directly below is 1 which is the row you'll be placing your notifies on.
  3. Right Click anywhere on the time line, click Add Notify and you should see a list of all notifies the dbd survivor skeleton provides.
  4. Select the notify in accordance with your animation in FModel (if you are making custom animations entirely, check existing live animations' notifies for reference), NotifyName will be the notify you will have to select, for example Audio_Survivor_Run_Right.
  5. Right click on your newly added Notify (yellow by default) and set NotifyBeginTime to LinkValue of your FModel animation. For example 0.250343. Then simply repeat this process for all Notifies and for all animations in your project.
  6. If you are working on a custom animation mod with no LinkValue to go from, eye it, the right foot should hit the ground around the same frame as Audio_Survivor_Run_Right plays, for example, and all breathing sounds usually play at 0.0.
